Neutral Paint Colours – The Modern Classic

Pair cool neutrals with classic furniture for modern style.

A neutral colour scheme lays an excellent base foundation for any room and can easily transform a space thanks to the flexibility in the tones. Neutral paint colours vary in hues across the spectrum but often are mistaken for “boring” or safe colours. Decorating potential is limitless with neutral paint, because of the variety of shades.

Neutral living room colours like creams, greys and light browns create a lovely calming atmosphere and invite a sense of serenity. When layered with mixed-textures and patterns, you create depth and interest, which can make the room more dynamic.

There’s no such thing as too much texture when it comes to decorating a neutral room, so try offsetting the flat, matt painted walls with rough, coarse textures like wood, rattan, or natural-look fibres like faux suede and furs.

Neutral tones can easily come across as luxurious when used in the right way. Combine elements of glass, chrome and mirror to elevate the look and create a luxe atmosphere. Just because a room has a neutral colour scheme, doesn’t mean it can’t offer a little drama.

In contrast, you can easily make a neutral space more cosy and family-friendly by adding darker shades to your walls and fabrics. Earthy brown tones layered with deep greens can add richness to a room, and will certainly be easier to keep on top of.
