My Colour Story: I created a mini gallery with a painted feature wall

For Tabara N’Diaye, author and founder of basket and homewares business La Basketry, vivid colour is a shortcut to “brightening the everyday”. She drew from her Adventure Seeker approach to colour to transform a living room with a single coat of paint – and create the ultimate painted gallery wall to showcase her handwoven basket collection.

The Adventure Seeker style

Tabara has always been drawn to bold and bright shades in her decor. “I think this is very much linked to Senegal, where my family is originally from,” she says. The Senegalese community also plays a part in her business, with local artisans creating the woven accessories she sells at La Basketry or inspiring some of the pieces Tabara creates herself. 

“I think my style is definitely adventurous,” she agrees. “I love working with colours, I’m very much inspired by travelling”. And her globe-trotting inspired the colours she chose for her living room from Simply Refresh: a bold painted feature wall in Blood Orange framed by a border of Blush Pink. It’s a surprising and beautiful combination that brings a cheerful atmosphere to the room.

The ultimate painted feature wall

We’ve always been a fan of a feature wall, but Tabara’s version is a brilliant expression of her personal style. With some of her favourite woven baskets on display, the Blood Orange wall becomes a gallery that makes her collection sing. The Blush Pink frame creates a unique contrast. “I think it’s a great way to add personality and individuality to your home,” she says of painting a space to display art, photographs or crafts.
