Room 1: Ginterlude

The room: Leanna and Jamie’s living room, bathed in forest green shades, botanical wallpaper, 3-D “leafy” panels – and a mottled, sky-inspired ceiling.

Laurence’s inspiration: A luxe, Bridgerton-esque gin lounge which, according to Laurence, will bring out Jamie’s “inner Georgian rake”. We’ll drink to that!

The colour scheme: LLB brought the outside in with this colour scheme from our Heritage collection, coating the walls with velvet matt emulsion in Mallard Green and Wishbone White. The ceiling effect was created with Wishbone White, Boathouse Blue, Light Teal and Potters Pink. Loving the painted terrazzo effect Laurence conceived for the sideboard? You can work the same magic at home. All you’ll need is a lick of Wishbone White, DH Grass Green, Light Teal and Raven’s Flight (all from Heritage) and our step-by-step tutorial.

Biggest surprise: That a mix of patterns can live so harmoniously together. Laurence’s leafy wallpaper, terrazzo surfaces and jaunty stripes create a lively - but not chaotic - atmosphere.

What we learned: Over the series, we’ve seen our design experts create reading nooks and tucked-away wardrobes for the series’ lucky homeowners, but the arched dining space Laurence created might be our favourite hideaway yet. Immersive colour, the painted terrazzo table and chic rug make the room a perfect spot for entertaining.

Best quote: Laurence, sympathising with his celebrity doppelganger: “I feel very sorry for Dave Grohl because there he is, standing at a bus stop, and people come up to him and ask ‘well, what colour carpet should I put with my curtains?’”

Made by Marianne: Marianne Shillingford, Dulux Creative Director, shares her take on Laurence’s colour palette: “We can’t get enough of the (literally) Heritage feel of the ‘gin lounge’ created by Laurence in this week show, using a backdrop of grown-up moody Mallard Green. There is nothing like a darker colour to add some drama to a space. If you aren’t feeing brave enough to colour-drench your space in a dramatic shade, perhaps use it more sparingly in your scheme in a certain area of your room where to add a feature. You could add a darker colour in the shelves of a bookcase, in a corner to create a cosy reading corner with a high back chair, or as a zone around your bar cart to set off those cocktails.”

Room 2: Pucker Up

The room: Donna’s bedroom, re-designed with va-va-voom curves, curtains and playful pops of spray-painted colour. The design duo injected sweet pink and berry tones, a circular bed and their signature door “squiggle”.

Jordan and Russell’s inspiration: Creating a “Pretty Woman” fantasy space that suits Donna’s exuberant personality and bringing in elements from the bold, pop art Memphis design movement of the 1980s

The colour scheme: The team brought their rose-tinted vision to life with a single coat of Simply Refresh Blush Pink on the walls and ceiling and created the spray-painted wall art with Lady Penelope, Wild Poppy, Ruby Starlet and Lilac Orchid. The adorable door treatment catches the eye with an artful splash of Wild Poppy.

What we learned: We’ll never look at wood trim the same way again, thanks to Russell and Jordan’s whimsical paint treatment in Donna’s room. The curvy, scalloped paint squiggle that frames the door brings a charming focal point to the room, and best of all: Russell and Jordan passed on the technique to the Changing Rooms decorators. The project we’ll leave to the experts: The room’s decorative circles - their hazy outlines were created free-hand with spray paint and a good eye. Best quote: Russell, describing the “French manicure lamp” craft that was inspired by an Alexander McQueen exhibition and acrylic nails: “It should look almost beetle-esque, like a crazy sexy insect”.

Made by Marianne: “WOW! This makeover is quite the feast for the eyes, with tones of pink and red adorning Donna’s bedroom space. If ‘hit-you-between-the-eyes’ colour is what you love, then Wild Poppy and Lady Penelope is for you. We also love the addition of Russell and Jordans signature ‘squiggle’ to add extra personality.

You may be a fan of pink, but prefer something a little more subtle: Blush Pink is a delicate, almost neutral shade that looks beautiful as a wrap-around pale shade on all walls. Pressed Petal is a sophisticated, grey-toned pink that will appeal to anyone and would look perfect as an accent against the Blush Pink. And if you still wanted some oomph, add some Raspberry Diva as an extra pop!”
