5 Colourful Bathroom Ideas

Find inspiration for your next bathroom refurb with these bold and bright bathroom paint colours.

Wondering how to combine function and style in your bathroom? Colourful bathrooms can transform your mood and turn everyday routines into indulgent, spa-like experiences. Plus, painting is a budget-friendly way to make a big change to the way your bathroom looks and feels since it’s one of the hardest-working rooms in your home. Explore our top 5 colourful bathroom paint ideas to instantly refresh your space, whether an en-suite or family bathroom.

1. Bright green bathroom

One of our favourite bright bathroom ideas is green. No matter which shade you choose – whether pale hues like Willow Tree or rich tones like Enchanted Eden – green is great for cheering up a tired bathroom. This earthy colour is grounding and rejuvenating, helping you feel refreshed in the morning and totally chilled before bed.

Bright green bathroom walls make a statement that’s timeless and effortlessly stylish. Opt for vibrant hues like Pixie Green or Highland Green – whether used on all the walls or as a feature wall. Contrast your favourite shade with Timeless or Pure Brilliant White for the ceiling and fixtures, providing a clean finish.

To complete the look, invite the outside in with plants and choose natural materials like wicker and wood for storage and decorative accessories. Since green is a balancing colour which works with any other shade, you can easily introduce different coloured towels and accessories. If you have enough wall space, add a personal touch to your new green bathroom with artwork.

2. Spa-inspired pink bathroom

Pink is a warm and inviting shade that’s perfect in any bathroom. Subtle pastel pinks like Spring Rose and dusky Blush Pink have a serene, spa-like feel and make an excellent alternative to cream or white. But if you want your pink bathroom to make a statement or you’re planning a fun, tonal all-pink design, opt for candy-coloured hues like Sweet Pink and Berry Smoothie.

All pinks pair well with warm whites and creams for window frames, doors and ceilings – try Frosted Dawn or Jasmine White. To tie the design together, include pops of coordinating pinks throughout the space with decorative accessories like soap dispensers, vases, towels, bath mats and wall art.

3. Calming blue bathroom scheme

Blue bathrooms are a popular choice in many homes thanks to their calming effects and associations with nature – from clear skies to bodies of water. All shades of blue can enhance feelings of well-being, from mental clarity to serenity and happiness, making your bathroom an enjoyable place to spend time in.

Blue is a receding colour that makes any room feel more open and spacious, so it’s an excellent choice for small bathrooms or ensuites. Adorn your walls in First Dawn for a burst of sky blue, or for a more modern edge, choose a grey-blue like Misty Mirror. Navy shades like Breton Blue are just as calming as paler hues but with added depth for a luxurious feel.

Clean white trim perfectly complements all blues – try White Cotton on bathroom skirting boards, window frames, and cupboards. For a coastal or riverside vibe, introduce natural materials, pale wood, and found natural treasures like shells and stones.

4. Fun yellow bathroom

If you’re searching for fun bathroom ideas to liven up your space, look no further than yellow! This joyful, sunny shade radiates happiness and is associated with creativity, warmth and vitality. Don’t be afraid to decorate your walls and ceiling with vibrant yellow paint like Lemon Punch or Sunny Day for the ultimate bathroom boost that will put a spring in your step every day.

To add contrast, team yellow with a fresh white like White Cotton on your window frames, doors and skirting boards, or choose a cool, pale grey like Polished Pebble for a contemporary feel. Alternatively, combine pastel yellow shades like Orchid White with darker hues like Honey Nut and Golden Sands for an all-yellow tonal colour scheme. If bold décor is your thing, pair yellow with contrasting towels and accessories in blues, pinks or greens to create the ultimate fun colour scheme.

5. Vibrant teal bathroom

Vibrant teal bathroom - Teal Voyage, Denim Drift

The shades used in this room are Teal Voyage and Denim Drift.

Immerse yourself in luxury with a vibrant teal bathroom. It’s impossible not to embrace serenity when you’re surrounded by this rich shade of sea blue-green, which evokes crystal-clear waters, precious stones and luxurious silk.

For walls and bathroom cabinets, consider bright teal shades like Teal Façade or Proud Peacock, which perfectly complement black and white bathrooms. If you love deeper, sophisticated hues, Teal Tension and Teal Ripple are ideal – pair them with black or grey flooring, tiles, and accessories for an elegant, hotel-style bathroom. Want to bring even more vibrancy to the design? Jewel tones like purple or sapphire blue complement teal.

How to add colour to bathrooms

Although painting the walls is a quick and easy way to inject vibrancy into your bathroom, there are several other ways you can use colour to bring your design to life. Our Creative Director, Marianne Shillingford, shares tips for adding colour to bathrooms:

“Even if your bathroom is tiled from top to toe, you can paint the ceiling in a favourite colour that draws the eye upwards, making you happy when you are lying in the bath.

If you have a window in the bathroom, paint the frame and surrounding recess in a colour that contrasts the walls – this could be a paler or deeper version of the same shade or something completely opposite, like a pink window frame in a green bathroom. Painting the door and skirting boards in a colour that complements your towels also looks amazing.”
