Before & After: Calm and Cosy Living Room Makeover

Is your decor is looking a bit tired and same-y? Sometimes all it takes is a few clever changes to spruce up and refresh the entire scheme. This was the case for Linda, whose been living in her family home for almost ten years and really wanted to change her open plan living room where her and her family spend most of their time.

So she called on the expertise of our designers to create a chilled-out, multifunctional, living space.

Here, we find out how the project came together.

The Brief

‘Linda wanted to update her existing space with a contemporary look and a calming atmosphere. Space for the whole family was a key element in the brief.'

The Budget

‘The budget was £2500, and Linda was looking for ideas to change all elements of her room including the sofa, however we can make suggestions for as little as £100 to transform a space.’

The Design

‘The cool grey scheme was influenced by the images Linda liked. This shade helped modernise the space, and by injecting the pop of yellow in the accessories we ensured the space was not too cold. We used lots of contrasting textures – a combination of chunky knits, velvet and soft cottons to get the cosy look Linda was after.

As an on-trend seating solution I suggested a beautiful simple bench, which also has the benefit of being less dominant within the room – a brilliant way of saving space.’

The Finished Look

‘The total design process, from getting the brief to Linda receiving the final design took one week. She was really delighted with her finished scheme and the speed in which she received the design meant she could get on with transforming her room immediately.’

The Verdict

'I can’t believe the difference in our living room. I feel like there’s something for everyone now. My kids love the sofa and my husband and I love our new breakfast area, so we all relax there in our own time but we still enjoy it as a family. Thank you Dawn!'
