Before & After: Travel-Inspired Bedroom Makeover

Using his love for vintage maps as a starting point, our Amazing Space designers helped Paul transform his bedroom.

Having a blank canvas of a room is a dream come true for some of us, but it can also feel quite daunting – there's almost too many possibilities. Where to start? Paul faced a similar problem once he'd moved into his new flat, so he called on the expertise of our design team to help him give his bedroom personality and style.

The challenge

'After buying my first flat, I spent a lot of time decorating my living room and kitchen but I felt like my bedroom wasn’t getting much attention. I had no idea where to begin. Paul explains.

The design brief

'Paul liked his bedside lamps and the amount of natural light in his room, but he was looking to change his walls,' explains our expert expert who worked with Paul on his project. 'He also told us he had a collection of globes and vintage maps, so we took inspiration from these for his new colour palette.'

The finished look

Paul's new look bedroom uses a scheme of blues and earthy shades combined with a two-tone effect on his walls. 'This technique is really easy to do and is a really simple way to add depth to any room.

'We made Paul’s bed the focal point of his room, and swapped his existing frame for a heavier, earthy oak frame, to compliment his walls and colour scheme. Mixing the texture of his sheets, throws and cushions was another nice suggestion we added to his style guide. It helped the room feel a little cosier – important for a relaxing sleep space,'

The verdict

'I absolutely love my new room. I never thought it could look like this. I love that my Expert Designer kept a lot of the old stuff from my bedroom in the new design. And my bed looks so much better, it’s my favourite part of the room,' Paul says.
