‘Copper Blush’, was predicted as the Colour of the Year following extensive research by a 20-strong panel of global colour and trend experts who specialise in different areas of colour use, brought together by Dulux parent company, AkzoNobel. Collectively the team scours the globe, exploring a broad range of different cultures and industries including interiors, fashion, beauty, design and even social and economic influences.

On the horizon of gutsy colour we see rich smokey teal giving way to warmer tones of copper and the sultry colours of a parched natural landscape. Watch this space.

Mineral colours in all their glory from the complex neutrals to robust glowing hues have been developing as strong trends in colour over the past few years. In 2014 we saw a rich teal with the characteristics of oxidised copper and for 2015 that layer of oxidation is removed to reveal the beautiful glowing metal beneath. Hotter colours like gutsy baked clay, rich ochre yellows and deep burnt sand are set to be big in the coming year in both fashion and interiors and luckily they are the perfect partners to whatever shade of grey you choose to live with.

All research points to this orangey, coppery tone, as witnessed at global events from Stockholm and Milan to Shanghai, metallic colour tones are playing an increasingly important role in modern design.

Great on its own, the colour also combines perfectly with pinks, neutrals, whites and other orange hues, as well as metallic colours such as gold. It also beautifully complements wood tones and can be brought to life by flesh pinks and earthy tones of clay.

It really comes alive combined with flesh pink, clay toned neutral, a tiny touch of bright yellow, crisp whites, wood tones and of course copper

Replacing the cool blues and greens of recent years, the colour palette for 2015 brings a warmer spectrum of pinks, reds and oranges, reflecting a more positive global outlook.

Our colour of the year for 2015 breathes warmth into interiors.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor, comments: “Copper really is everywhere at the moment and totally on trend so it’s no surprise that ‘Copper Blush’ is this year’s Colour of the Year. This shade is full of warmth and it was a real pleasure to wake up in such a beautifully styled bedroom setting. I’m also a personal fan of Emily Dickinson’s work and to speak her words in the film was really special to me.”
