Colour Lookbook: Create a Sanctuary at Home with Soothing Neutral Tones and Earthy Shades
If you’ve read our recent Colour Lookbook, you’ll know that neutral colours and earth tones are one of the top 5 interior trends for 2021.
Right now, we’re all seeking calm and comfort in our homes. We want a safe sanctuary from the unstable outside world. Warm neutral colours are the perfect way to achieve this. These cinnamon browns, terracotta tones, putty greys and raw linen colours can help turn your home into a haven.
Whichever room you’re decorating, let us show you how to introduce neutral colours and earthy tones into every room of your home.
For a dreamy bedroom
Neutral colour schemes are all about making us feel relaxed, so what better place to use them than where you rest your head. There are lots of earthy tones that work well in bedrooms. Our Colour of the Year 2021, Brave GroundTM, is a natural brown, which not only provides that cosy feel, it complements other natural colours like Copper Blush. Using two complementary shades is a great way to create standout features in your space.
For a laidback living room
Try a blend of darker neutral colours to make a living room feel sociable yet smart. An important tip to remember is that the less colour you have in a room, the more texture you need. Style earthy tones and natural colours with woods and ceramic accessories, this will bring your neutral colour schemes to life. Here are a few ideas to inspire you:
1. Layer your room with simple ceramics for an organic look – check out this curvy vase from Nordic Nest. It’s ideal for filling with stems of pampas grass.
2. Brass elements, such as this West Elm side table, help to keep neutrals feeling warm and welcoming.
3. Add amber glass pendant lamps alongside earthy tones to create a soft glow – perfect when paired with exposed filament lightbulbs. This industrial-style fixture is from Iconic Lights.
4. A mix of contrasting textures creates interest, as with this wood and plush velvet armchair from our furniture retail partner, DFS, where you'll find a range of gorgeous pieces.
For a blissful bathroom
If your bathroom is looking washed out, warm up the space by painting your walls in light natural colours, such as Soft Stone. Then layer the room with other earthy tones for extra comfort. Go for warm colour schemes and accents, like these painted cabinets in Perfectly Taupe, or brighten your bathroom up with chrome accents for a modern look.
For an inviting study
Why not use warm paint colours to create a quiet and comfortable office space? Our Natural Hessian is a great choice for an inviting, cosy desk area. You could even pair it with a contrasting colour, perhaps a Decadent Damson feature wall, to help aid your concentration throughout the working day.
