Let’s Colour Magazine reader Rhiannon needed a wow shade that would set off all her copper accessories.
Step forward rich and vibrant Proud Peacock.
Before:
‘My starting point for colour in here was my copper pieces – the pendant lights, kettle and microwave,’ says artist Rhiannon of her newly decorated kitchen-diner. ‘I wanted something that would show them off, but also complement the Blush Pink walls in the adjoining living room. I considered navy, but I really like the botanical trend and fell for the green tones in Proud Peacock.’ she says.
‘The space is south-facing, so it can take a deep shade, and the natural light really brings out its richness,’ she adds.
‘I run my business from this room, so I wanted a colour I was in love with, as I spend so much time in here.’
As well as pursuing her career as an artist, Rhiannon is mum to two young boys, so wipe-clean paint was a must. ‘My whole house is painted in Dulux colours – they’re so durable,’ she says.
The Easycare Washable & Tough range is perfect for us, as it stands up to spills and splashes, and is 20 times tougher than standard emulsion, so all those little handprints can be scrubbed off.
Rhiannon teamed her teal wall with white and charcoal, both in the units and the ceramic floor tiles, framing the feature colour and giving it centre stage.
The unit around the radiator links with the kitchen cupboards to give the space cohesion – and makes a good spot for all Rhiannon and the boys’ art supplies. ‘We’re quite a creative family,’ she laughs.
The result is a room that works for everyone, and inspires Rhiannon daily, whether she’s working, relaxing or rustling up dinner for her brood.
Expert Tip: Make sure you use a mediul-pile woven roller to get the perfect smooth finish for a low sheen paint.
