Christmas is one of the most wonderful times of the year. The decorations are up, the tinsel is twinkling and presents are under the tree. But is there anything more Christmassy than a cosy, crackling fireplace?

Our latest weekend project shows you just how easy it is to make your fireplace stand out during the festive season, by simply painting with a bold, block colour, and adorning warm accessories.

Such a daring shade as Rich Black might not be your first choice for a feature wall behind your fireplace, however using black paint for a dark surround will create a contemporary look and feel this Christmas – your black wall will be the focal point of the room.

Black feature walls are one of the boldest trends to come out of 2019. A black feature wall is the perfect way to add a modern twist to the minimalist black, white and grey living room. It’s a new favourite amongst homeowners who want a cosy space that’s got flair – perfect for welcoming and entertaining guests this Christmas.

Although white walls tend to dominate living rooms, painting your wall with black paint has the power to make your festive decorations pop and Rich Black will do the job with beautiful simplicity.

Fireplace décor ideas for cosy nights in

Now it’s time to really get into the festive spirit and cosy-up your moody backdrop with warm, rustic fireplace Christmas decorations.

Our experts suggest staying minimal and decorating your new black feature wall with low-key decorations and Christmas mantel décor.

The black setting is ideal for absorbing woods and textures. Choose warm fireplace ornaments, like big twinkling stars, that will match the golden glow of the fire without being overpowering.

Another chimney breast idea is to adorn your black wall with a fireplace garland. Hanging natural foliage above the fireplace will add to the rustic character of the space. Why not go foraging for ferns, pinecones or even evergreen branches?
