My Colour Story: I gave my office a colourful, creative makeover

If you’re into joyful interiors, chances are you’ve Instagram-stalked the artful spaces designed by Amanda Cotton on @houselust. She told us how she brought some of her Creative Spirit style to a plain home office – watch to see her paint a striking mural in record time and read her tips on using the one-coat range from Simply Refresh.

The Creative Spirit style

Being the space where she dreams up both fashion and interior designs, Amanda knew that plain walls in her study weren’t going to cut it. “I would describe my style as quite colourful and eclectic,” she says, explaining why she embarked on her stunning office makeover. The masterpiece in her newly decorated room? A three-colour mural with graphic shapes that playfully wrap around the corner and the ceiling.

She was delighted with the result. “As a creative, it’s really nice to have a creative office space to work from,” she points out. The central circle in Golden Sands creates a focal point for her desk, while a square in Denim Drift stretches around the corner and a second square in Blood Orange wraps up on the “fifth wall” or ceiling.

Creating a wall mural

A keen DIY-er, Amanda was thrilled to get roller-ing. “I love the idea that you can just add some colour blocking to a wall and it gives it a whole new lease of life,” she says. And she loved using Simply Refresh for the project: “The paint is so thick and creamy so it goes straight on the wall in one coat – and the colours are so saturated.” The one-coat formula is a brilliant option for beginners and for those who sometimes lose their enthusiasm during a decorating project. “You don’t have to re-cut in or wait between coats, which saves so much time!”
