Wanderlust: Hoxton Amsterdam
Thought Dutch style was all Delft tiles and tulips? Think again. Say hello to the new wave of Dutch interior design.
Sister hotel to the Hoxton hotels in London's Shoreditch and Holborn, this newly opened outpost brings a slice of contemporary cool to Amsterdam's hotel scene. Local interior design duo Nicemakers are behind the laid-back luxe look, and the studio is on its way to becoming Holland's most sought after practice, with a growing string of impeccably hip and happening projects under its belt across the city. These interiors have been designed with comfort in mind, but feel decadent and luxe too, thanks to the use of gorgeous fabrics, rich colours and clever ways with materials. Kick back with a cocktail in hand and put your feet up - arriving at the Hoxton strangely feels like coming home…
Made up of five historical canal-side houses, the spaces elegantly play to their period features, but are modern and cosy too. The library and lounge areas are decked out in plush velvet sofas, and butter-soft leather easy chairs in a rich palette of ochre, red, mahogany and teal. Wood panelling and exposed bricks line the walls, contrasted with sleek brass lighting, whereas kilim rugs dress the dark wooden floors.

Try Modern Rugs' Geo Diamonds Kilim rug (from £145) for a similar flat-woven rug, and Made's Lotus armchair in Crimson (£289). For lighting, Flos' IC lights (£325) exude a modern glamour for instant hotel-chic.
Bedrooms are simple but stylish, with a focus on quality materials, such as leather headboards, dark wood panelling and metallic accents in the furniture and lighting. Walls are painted in a rich teal and set off with copper-tined geometric mirrors for a cocooning and serene feel that still feels dramatic and directional.

For a similar moody wall colour, try Venetian Crystal 1, and add copper and brass accents to your space, such as a cluster of these Small Hexagon Shaped Copper Mirrors by Posh Totty designs (from £10). Or, blow the budget on House Junkie's Large Round Copper Mirror, (£110) for a slice of hotel glamour.
Industrial chic is the signature look at the Hoxton, from the reception area to the restaurant, so expect exposed copper piping and metro tile-clad walls. We love how the hotel mixes up different colours and sizes of the common metro tile to give a fresh twist on the trend.

Walls and Floors have a large range of metro tiles. Try the Chapel Gloss Metro Tiles, (£11.45 per sq m) for a clean, contemporary look, especially when used with Pure Brilliant White.
