4 New Trends To Try in 2019
A fresh new year brings a fresh approach to combining colours in your home. Read on to discover the hottest new looks you need to know about.
Spice up your life with a bit of Honey
One of the key trends this year is to use warm versatile colours that are inspired by nature and fill your home with energy. Our Colour of the Year 2019, Spiced Honey works in every room in the home. Just like honey, the colour has a soothing quality and is as delicious to look at as honey on hot buttered toast!
Use it as visual flavour to create a cosy corner in an open-plan living space.
Here we have paired Spiced Honey with a delicate neutral Just Walnut, pops of brass in the accessories and a gorgeous contrasting blue velvet DFS Rutland sofa completes the look.
Go Geo
Geometric shapes are everywhere in design this year and it's easy to recreate this key trend in your home. One of the great things about this look is that you can combine several of your favourite shades in the same space without it feeling like you've gone wild with lots of colour.
You can combine neutral shades with just a pop of colour or keep things simple with a calming palette of neutrals. We love this honeycomb effect which is really easy to achieve. Watch our how-to video here.
If a honeycomb effect is too much you could use simpler geometric shapes like squares and oblongs. Use three colours, a neutral background and two bolder shades for the colour blocks. Balance your design by using the bolder colours in smaller amounts.
In this kitchen space we have used Teal Lux in the recess with Spiced Honey and Storm Day for the honeycomb effect with Writers Desk on the island unit.
In this modern nursery we have used a Soft Stone background with blocks of Spiced Honey and Finest Burgundy.
New Neutrals
Move over deep, dark and moody, it's time to make way for a fresh new take on neutrals. We aren’t talking creams and magnolias here, we're talking about a range of sophisticated and sensuous shades, that can be layered effortlessly in the same space. This is grown up stuff that you can really have fun with and never go wrong!
Think dusky pinks and sunkissed browns, blushing peach and whipped chocolate shades. This is a truly relaxed palette of colours that allows us to re-boot from the sensory overload of a fast paced world. Our new Colour Futures trend ‘A Space to Think’ captures these new neutrals perfectly, combining hotel chic with real-home warmth.
Choose from Soft Stone, Just Walnut, Angora Blanket and Leather Case for the ultimate new neutral palette.
Cool Jewels
We've seen a rise in the cool emerald green trend over the last year and it is certainly here to stay, yay! So let these striking teals and emerald shades make their way into your home this year. If you are feeling brave, then cocoon the space in colour on every surface and the walls will melt away.
But you don't have to use a lot of colour to make a big difference, just part of the wall or the chimney breast is the perfect way to inject this high lux look into your home. These richly pigmented shades look gorgeous in a chalky matt finish. Just add brass and copper accessories, natural wood furniture and of course some lush plants to complete the look.
We have used below Minted Glory 1 and Teal Tension, but you could also try Emerald Glade and Fortune Green.
