This year we’ll be surrounding ourselves with the gorgeous greens found in nature, bringing the outside in. Dark and dramatic teals like Emerald Glade and warm and earthy tones such as Overtly Olive can be used in kitchens to extend our gardens, create bathrooms that feel like spas, and bedrooms brimming with biophilic inspired action.
From deep ocean navy, to dreamy sky blue, blues will be used to create a sense of calm and positivity. Light blues such as Bright SkiesTM – Dulux Colour of the Year 2022 – opens up rooms, creates a sense of space and an upbeat and positive feel. On the other end of the spectrum, dark, moody blues like Sapphire Salute and Teal Tension are cosy and cocooning.
A new-wave of white is coming, which means it’s time to embrace the ultimate neutral. From clean and cool whites like Rock Salt, to cosy and warm colours such as Summer Linen or Timeless, they offer simplicity in a complicated world. They create rooms for rest and reflection, while providing flexibility as a clean and unfussy backdrop, allowing accessories to really pop.
2022 is all about combining warm nudes to create sumptuous palettes. Think rose pinks like Blush Pink, rusty oranges such as Copper Blush and muddy creams like Egyptian Cotton. Beiges are anything but boring – just see Summer Linen. Better still, ‘greige’ – combining all the warmth of beige but the sleekness of grey – is being hailed as ‘the perfect neutral’, try Just Walnut.
The sugary pastels of the 80s are back – think sorbet-inspired shades in strawberry pinks, mint greens and sherbet oranges. Refreshing and celebratory, they’re perfect for creating whimsical spaces. Think cool WFH studios for creative types or stylish kitchens for serious foodies. Try the trend for yourselves in the likes of Soft Peach and Tranquil DawnTM.
Sustainable style is firmly top of the agenda. With water-based paint like Dulux Quick Dry, furniture made from sound materials such as reclaimed woods or recycled glass, and by upcycling vintage finds, it’s easier than ever to make positive changes.
Home gyms, a spot next to a desk zoned with colour for meditation, a cranny under the stairs carved out for reading, wellness is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Invigorating colours like Blood Orange motivate you to workout, while soft and serene shades such as Melon Sorbet help you rest.
Décor is set to follow hot on the heels of the dopamine dressing trend. As electric colours and no-holds-barred hues like Acai Berry, Proud Peacock and Sapphire Salute gain momentum, it’s time to be loud and proud with feel-good colour that causes a splash.
More of us are getting creative in the most unexpected corners of our houses, from boot rooms to basement bars. Big ideas deserve standout colour schemes. So don’t hide your gaming room away – make it pop in a statement shade such as Banana Split – or lean into green tones in your home office with Overtly Olive.
