Changing Rooms: Episode 3
Transformation 1 – Pauline and Lily
Vintage Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is back in this episode with his bright and daring designs.
His manifesto for Pauline and Lily’s space was ‘ulterior violet’. From the orange wall to the macassar wood effect, listen to find out if he left the ladies feeling overwhelmed or overjoyed.

Transformation 2 – Amanda and Rachel
Jordan and Russell switched things up when it came to Amanda and Rachel’s space. They chose a neutral colour scheme and layered the room with warm tones.
The standout feature in the space was the ‘dirty protest’ feature wall. Bold and memorable, 2LG used a broom to create this unique design with the Dulux Colour of the Year 2021, Brave GroundTM.

Special Guest: Jordan and Russell from 2LG Studio
Changing Rooms double act, Jordan and Russell, founders of interior design studio 2LG, were in the hot seats this week. The couple have been described as the rising stars of the interior scene and call their style joyful minimalism.
Here’s a taste of what they shared with us, including their memories of the original series.
“It was like a family thing to do, it was really a big part of my childhood. I absolutely loved a big burst of creativity and I sort of didn't realize it at the time, but it definitely sparked something”.
Jordan and Russell also talked about being a part of the new team.
“We're all getting on really well. At first, I think they had this idea that perhaps there'd be a lot of rivalry but what they didn't plan for was the fact that we actually get on freely. The chemistry was just like really instant”.
They also reveal their high points from the show.
“The reveal is such a high. What you see on TV is different to reality. So, once the cameras have gone and they can properly see the room, it’s a really nice moment”.
Jordan and Russell also describe what it’s like working as a married couple, what they admire about Laurence’s designs and much more.
Dr Dulux: Decorating techniques from the show
In this part of our special podcast series, Dr Dulux explains how you can recreate the painting techniques from the show in your own home.
Transformation 1: How do you create your own marble effect vase?
The first thing to do is pick out your paint colours. Dr Dulux recommends pulling out three or four shades that are already in your décor, this could be from your sofa cushions or your artwork.
Next, add a few tablespoons of each colour into plastic pots, then pour them into your vase one at a time. Make sure the paint hits the bottom rather than the sides. Then it’s time to swirl and join the paints together to create the beautiful marble effect.
Watch this how-to video to learn more about this technique and get tips on how to do it yourself.
Transformation 2: How do you paint a ‘dirty protest’ moment?
Steph loved the organic nature of the ‘dirty protest’ feature wall and the creative freedom it can give you. Here are a few tips from Dr Dulux on how you can give it a go…
Start by laying lots of dust sheets down. Painting free hand like this will result in a few splatters and spills. You might want to have a big bucket of hot soapy water and a cloth just in case.
Dr Dulux’s top tip here is to not overthink. Moisten your brush, dip it in paint and go for it! Enjoy playing with colour – make it fun. And finally, make sure you walk away when it’s done. Going back and amending it will only ruin your creation!
