Dr Alex also shares his favourite calming colours with Let’s Colour listeners. In his new home, he’s surrounded himself with blues and greens, after all “you need to have colours that make you feel happy”.
Blues feel optimistic and positive, providing a sense of freedom and new beginnings.
Greens bring nature inside, creating a sense of calm and peacefulness.
Discover how Dr Alex has used Bright SkiesTM and natural paint colours from Dulux’s Greenhouse palette to lift his spirits at home.
Blues and greens work beautifully with natural materials, including dark woods, woven textures and so on.
Hanging foliage and potted planets also help to bring these nature-inspired shades to life in relaxing rooms. Dr Alex’s new home being the perfect source of inspiration.
Contrasting colours that are on opposite sides of the colour wheel look amazing together, too. Flashes of reds and oranges make a contemporary statement against blues and greens.
We couldn’t have an episode of Let’s Colour without making an appointment with Dr Doctor. Here’s what she prescribed…
An Instagram follower got in touch about decorating with pink and making a room feel grown-up rather than girly.
Well, according to Dr Dulux pink can be anything you want it to be.
Steer clear of sweet pinks and go for soft pinks with grey undertones, which lend to sophisticated and peaceful spaces. Think of them as neutrals for you to add other colours to. Green pairs particularly well with pink, whatever style you’re trying to achieve.
Calming colours, such as blues and greens, are great for bedrooms, as they instinctively help you to relax and unwind.
However, one listener wanted to know how you can add interest to relaxing rooms.
Dr Dulux suggests painting a beautiful horizon line. With a deep blue or green on the bottom and lighter tone of the same colour on top. This’ll not only create an eye-catching look, it’ll feel incredibly grounding too.
So, there you have it!
We hope you join us in giving Dr Alex a warm welcome to the Dulux family.
