Discover how to paint an ombré wall with Stacey Solomon and Dulux
If you’re anything like us, you’ll have been following Stacey Solomon – our Dulux Colour of the Year 2024 Ambassador - on Instagram as she transforms Pickle Cottage into a colourful home.
The TV personality is also a DIY lover and fan of pink, so Stacey was the perfect choice when it came to choosing the Dulux Colour of the Year 2024 Ambassador for Sweet Embrace™ – a contemporary twist on the rose-coloured hue with a calming quality. Stacey will be showing DIY fans up and down the country how to transform their homes using Sweet Embrace™ to change not just how spaces look, but how they feel, too.
But first, Stacey decided to shake up the look and feel of her daughter’s bedroom by experimenting with an ombré effect she learnt from Dulux’s very own creative director, Marianne Shillingford. Replacing a blossom-tree mural she painted when she first moved in – Stacey painted the wall in Absolute White so she could start with a blank canvas. She says: “It had to go!” She then painted the bottom section in Ash Rose, followed by Sweet Nougat for the middle and finished with Sweet Embrace™ at the top to create a gorgeous gradient up the wall from dark to light. A creative way to refresh any wall in your home.
But how do you achieve the three-colour ombré effect? It’s not as difficult as you think in just three simple steps.
- Put a dust sheet down to protect your floor and prepare your colours by opening the lids of each can and giving the paint a good stir.
- Divide the wall roughly into three sections, rolling the bottom-third using Ash Rose; the middle third with Sweet Nougat; and, finally, the top third using Sweet Embrace™.
- Once dry, create the ombré effect by painting a band of the same colour over Ash Rose and Sweet Nougat and over Sweet Nougat and Sweet Embrace™ with a brush. Blend the bands together while keeping the angle of your brush the same as you go. Stacey comments “it was so satisfying; I have never enjoyed something so much.”
The result of Stacey’s makeover is a soft and gentle room that’s perfect for sparking creativity and inspiring dreams. Stacey says: “how pretty, it’s like a sunset.”
